“No me lo esperaba después de un año prácticamente parado”
La Fundación Alberto Contador realizó su debut en la temporada 2015 en el Circuito del Guadiana, donde este fin de semana compitió con sus dos formaciones, el Flex- Junior y el Specialized-Sub 23, en el que brilló uno de sus hombres rápidos, Cristian Torres, que logró el primer maillot de líder de la Copa de España sub-23 al terminar la carrera en cuarta posición. El albaceteño estaba especialmente contento con este resultado, que significa dejar atrás un año en blanco a causa de una mononucleosis. “No me lo esperaba, ya que todavía me falta ritmo de competición, pero este invierno he trabajado duro y pude aprovechar mi velocidad en grupos pequeños”, explicaba uno de los hombres más rápidos de la Fundación, junto con Miguel Ángel Alcaide.
La prueba inaugural de la Copa de España, que este año contará con nueve carreras, se resolvió al sprint de un grupo de unos 60 corredores. “Había una subida dura, pero estaba lejos de meta y eso hizo que se reagrupara el pelotón”, explica Cristian Torres. “Estoy contento de poder haber terminado cuarto. Ahora tengo que seguir sumando puntos y hacer todo lo que pueda. Este año ya no es el primero en la categoría, ya no se trata de aprender de los veteranos, sino que el equipo nos exige más resultados y estar delante para cumplir nuestros objetivos”.
Cristian, que cumple su tercer año en la Fundación, espera brillar esta temporada. “El año pasado casi no pude competir, pero por lo que vi estábamos todavía bastante verdes. Este año, en cambio, he notado una gran diferencia, sabemos compenetrarnos mejor en carrera, tenemos un gran ambiente y todos trabajamos par todos, lo que hace que terminemos las carreras muy contentos”.
El objetivo de Cristian Torres pasará a partir de ahora por rendir al máximo en la Copa de la España, uno de los objetivos que le ha marcado su director, Rafa Díaz Justo. “Tengo que centrarme en esta competición, pero con los pies en el suelo, porque hay algunas carreras muy duras, con muchas subidas, en las que sólo podré ir a sumar puntos. Tendré que aprovechar las que mejor se adapten a mis características”.

The aim of Cristian Torres right now is to perform well in the Spanish Cup, one of the goals has marked his director, Rafael Diaz Justo. “I have to focus on this competition, but with feet on the floor, because there are some very tough races, with many climbs, where I can only go to score points.
