IMG-20130531-WA002“He aprendido mucho estos tres días”, cuenta Álvaro Cuadros.

Alvaro Pictures: «To be the first time, I felt quite comfortable in the pavé »

Alvaro Cuadros just has returned from Belgium, where the Omega has invited him to a very special experience, live for three days with some of the best young riders of the moment and, incidentally, roll for the first time in his life on the legendary pavé, these cobbles that so few Spanish riders love, except for Juan Antonio Flecha and some others. He, however, returned delighted, not only for having known Belgium, but also because the pavé was not bad for him.

“I learned a lot these three days”, says Alvaro Cuadros. “It’s another country and other different habits, but I really enjoyed it, I had the opportunity to live with riders from other places and see a different way of training: three days that have been short, I would have liked to stay longer”.

For Cuadros, the most impressive were “pavé walls. We did part of the route of the Tour of Flanders training and it was amazing. I had never been on the cobbles, but to be the first time I felt pretty comfortable. Even I crowned in front some walls and also went strong on the flat sections, says the Grenadian, that remember especially one of them. “We climbed the Paterberg, the same place where this year Cancellara left Sagan”, he exclaims.

Alvaro roomed “with a sub 23 Belgian from the Omega Pharma, but of course, I felt better with the other Spanish, San Sebastián. We have fun and we are happy because we expected to be worse in training, but we have been at a good level”, he says proudly.

After this first experience in Belgium, Alvaro Cuadros want to go back soon. “We have been treated very well and yes, I’d like to ride there this summer. I think they have invited the team and of course I like to ride the Tour of Flanders. Until now I had never thought to ride those races, Flanders or Roubaix, but after seeing myself on the pavé, I don’t rule out ride them in the future”.

While all that comes, the season in Spain continues and Alvaro, after finish second in the first round of the Cup of Spain, who won his teammate Enric Mas, will race on Sunday in Sant Boi the second race. Again, expectations are good. “Every time I feel a little bit better and as we worked to have two peaks of form, I hope to maintain the level throughout the year, for the Cup of Spain and for stage races”.

In addition, the whole Specialized-Alberto Contador Foundation Team is working well. “We have many riders with chances and I think we can stay ahead. For now, we are leaders in Spain Cup. And I also hope to be ahead in the stages races”. For now, the season is fantastic, as he admits. “I expected a good year, but not as good as it’s going. I am very happy with the results, but also with the team and with all that is happening to me this year”, he concludes.
