U19 Spanish Cycling Championship
ITT: Zaratán – Zaratán (22,9 km ITT)

Nil Aguilera is going through a sweet moment. The rider from Igualada, second year junior, recent runner-up of the Vuelta al Besaya and winner of the final stage, climbed this Thursday to the podium in the time trial of the Spanish Cycling Championships of the category, held over almost 23 kilometres in the town of Zaratán in Valladolid.

Aguilera finished second in the time trial of the Nationals. The rider from Barcelona stopped the clock at 30’35”, a great time that allowed him to lead the provisional classification for a good period of time. Ibai Azanza from Navarre, with a superlative time, lowered Aguilera’s time by 40″, going under thirty minutes (29’55”) and winning the gold medal. Third place went to Hugo de la Calle from Asturias (30’50”).

Manuel Sanroma, representing Castilla-La Mancha, had a great performance in the race, finishing sixth with 31’15”. César Pérez from Murcia finished with the twelfth best time (31’52”), David Puente from Cantabria was eighteenth (32’20”) and Pedro García, also representing the Region of Murcia, finished 32nd (33’45”).

Nil Aguilera: “I went out for everything, very strong, trying to catch the last one little by little, but also getting stronger as the kilometres went by. In the end the strongest rider was Azanza, who did an impressive time trial, but I’m very happy with this second place. We continue working and we are already thinking about Sunday’s race”.
