XXVIII Vuelta a Valladolid
From 19 to 21 July

The tireless work of Velo Club Delicias continues in the consolidation of the Vuelta a Valladolid as one of the great events of the summer youth calendar. Three days of great junior cycling where the Kometa Cycling Team of the Alberto Contador Foundation will be present. The stage race in Valladolid is approaching its thirty editions with an edition in which, in terms of itinerary, the time trial of the first sector of Saturday emerges as crucial given the orographic particularities of the province.

They are not high mountainous lands, but even on the plateau there is no lack of steep slopes that can lead to a great fight for the definitive yellow jersey. It will happen especially on the first day, with the San Martín heights, the slope of Bodegas Sinfo or Cerro Wamba, or especially on Sunday, in which it could be qualified as the queen stage because it is the longest and also the one with the most important steeps, such as La Garganta, Simancas, Robladillo or, above all, Portillo. In the end, the organisers propose and it is the cyclists with their combativeness who have the chance.

Two new Belgian riders will compete with the Kometa Cycling Team in the Vuelta a Valladolid. These are Nils Verheyen and Yaaron Logghe, cyclists from the Birota Cycling U19 Development Team. Pedro Beneit from Alicante, Francesc Bennassar from the Balearic Islands, Raúl García from Madrid and Juan José Rosal from Catalonia complete the team. Rosal returns to a race in which he was already last year and where he managed to raise his arms in his last stage. “It is a very fast race, with short climbs, with many steep slopes. The differences with respect to the general one are usually marked by the time trial of the second day”, he comments.

Guillermo Gutiérrez, director of the Kometa Cycling Team: “We face a race that keeps growing year after year, a race with a great organization. We come with the desire to do well, to improve what we have done on previous occasions. It’s a good opportunity for the fast men, like Juanjo Rosal, who already won a stage in 2018. It’s true that the mountain doesn’t carry much weight on this lap, but that ‘absence’ is also a double-edged sword because the pace is very high throughout the day and the attacks are very numerous. The heat of these dates is another factor to take into account. Although last year, surprisingly, we also fell a major downpour, with the contribution of tension and breakdowns that usually entails. Let’s see how Nils and Yaaron adapt to such an intense and exciting experience for them”.
