As in the genesis of so many sports races, the family is well present in the cycling origins of this Catalan rider. His father and an uncle practiced this sport and it was because of them that this hobby arose in little Joel. At the age of five, in 2009, he started to ride mountain biking. Two years later, he finally took to the road side. A brand new road bike that was given to him in Reyes Festivity. “He tried it out and it was a real hit. I told my father that I wanted to practice road cycling,” he says. “My dream, the dream of all kids our age, is to become a professional”, he adds. Trained as a sportsman at the Tarrassa Ciclisme Club, in 2018 he faced his last year as a cadet at the Autocars Sagalès de la Unió Ciclista Vilanova. In 2020 he was the first leader of the prestigious Vuelta al Besaya, after his club’s victory in the inaugural team time trial.
