Marius Knight-Chaneac and Francesc Bennassar: great performances in France and on the Balearic calendar
3º Trofeo Conserves Roselló (Islas Baleares, Mallorca)
Grand Prix V3C-La Roue Libre / Tour de Marcoule (Francia)
The Majorcan Francesc Bennassar and the Andalusian with Anglo-French roots Marius Knight-Chaneac starred in great competitive performances during this weekend for the junior structure of the Alberto Contador Foundation.
Bennassar, who in recent weeks finished second in the regional road championship in its category, again curdled a great race in the third edition of the Trofeo Conserves Roselló held in the town of Lluvi on 44 kilometers that were traveled frantically, with a final average of over 44 km / h.
Francesc was involved in a sprint where Miguel Indurain, son of the five-time Tour de France champion and Giro d’Italia winner who has lived on the island of Mallorca for some years, imposed his speed. Bennassar finished third in the absolute classification, being the first young rider on the finish line.
Marius Knight-Chaneac was one of the great protagonists of the Tour de Marcoule, in the Gard department and by the waters of the Rhone. The event, initially scheduled for April, was postponed by the organizing club and finally could be held this past Sunday on a circuit of 8.2 kilometers to which participants had to complete ten turns.
Knight-Chaneac attacked from the beginning and was the embryo of a leak of six cyclists who would ride in the forefront throughout the race. Very combative, the protagonist of numerous attacks, he was slightly ahead in the last stages of the race until he suffered a fall in the last corner to finally finish in sixth place.
“It was a relatively flat circuit, with some sectors a little more leg-breaking and a not excessively hard climb of one kilometer. The truth is that I felt very good during the whole race and I am happy, because I had doubts about how my physical condition would be after such a long time without racing. I honestly expected to be worse, although I was feeling very good in training, but competition is always something else. It’s a result that helps me a lot, that gives me a lot of confidence and motivation”, says.
