Francesc Bennassar wins the Balearic Trofeu de Ciclisme Memorial Miquel Pol
III Trofeu de Ciclisme Memorial Miquel Pol
Mancor de la Vall
First competition after confinement for some of the members of the Kometa-Xstra Cycling Team structures, first great result. The young rider Francesc Bennassar won this Saturday afternoon in the III Trofeu de Ciclisme Memorial Miquel Pol within his category, the junior, with a second final place in the absolute classification.
The race, which was decided under the scoring formula, was held on a 950-metre street circuit starting and finishing in the Plaça d’Alt in the mountain village of Mancor de la Vall, where 35 laps had to be completed. The race was the first to be held in the Balearic Islands since the beginning of ‘the new normality’ and was held following a detailed protocol.
“It was a very short circuit, it had its dangers, it demanded that you played it. But we avoided that circumstance because from the first lap, I and another rider ran away. After three laps we were caught by Marc Terrasa and the three of us continued to run the race. It was a very nice feeling to be racing again. Right now in our category the forecasts are not good and for the moment we have to take advantage of these competitions to finish with that desire to compete again”, explains Francesc.
“I was aware that with my sprint I could take very important points and I played that card. Every five laps there was a sprint with points at stake and I was scoring points in the first four. That was enough for me to finish second overall and first in my category. The truth is that I did not expect to be so far ahead, we started very motivated, and the truth is that in the end we paid a little”, he adds.
