Concentration and competition fo the junior squad in Madrid

30 May, 2018

Special weekend for the Fundación Contador´s junior team. The Polartec-Kometa promises  will face a small concentration in Madrid, which will culminate on Sunday in the Peña Ciclista Monje de Fuenlabrada Grand Prix, a 97.6-kilometre race that the eleven members of the squad will compete in.

The match will start on Friday in the Sercotel Princesa de Éboli, although the riders from Madrid will be concentrated from Saturday at 10.30 am. On that day there will be various meetings, talks and interviews, as well as a small group outing. “The objective of this concentration is to make a team, in capital letters, facing the main objectives of the season, since between June and July there are practically all the important laps”, says the director Guillermo Gutiérrez.

Joan Marc Campos, Manuel Jesús Carrellán, Manuel Garrido, Daniel Lopes, Alex Martín, Luis Miguel Mendoza, Iván Oliver, Miguel Patiño, Carlos Rodríguez, Juan José Rosal and Javier Serrano will take part on Sunday in the Gran Premio Peña Ciclista Monje, one of the great classics of the Spanish calendar with its almost forty editions. Over a little less than 100 kilometres, the runners submerge themselves in the southern plains of Madrid to tackle the classic features of these geographies, such as Cuesta Nueva, which runs along both sides, and Los Molinos de Chinchón.

In 2017, today’s U23 rider Joan Martí Bennassar finished second behind Francisco Javier Agea (Salchi), while in 2016 and 2015 the Foundation’s team signed memorable trebles with the victory of Tomeu Gelabert, second place of Alejandro Ropero and third place of José Antonio García, the first year, and the success of Joan Bou and the company of Juanpe López and José Félix Parra, in 2015.
