Carlos Rodriguez, seventh in Sant Boi, remains at the forefront of the Spanish Junior Cup

37th Cursa del Llobregat
Navàs-Sant Boi (111 km)

Pau Miquel (Turismo Villanúa), who arrived at the last meters with Josep Miquel Canet (Ulbsport-Ginestar), won the prestigious Cursa del Llobregat, the third round of a junior Spanish Cup in which the Polartec-Kometa rider from Granada, Carlos Rodríguez, is still in the lead with three points of margin over Miquel.

The Almuñecar rider was one of the main protagonists of the race with an offensive bet that was developed in the second of the mountain passes, the Alto de Ullastrell, and which expired, absorbed by a group of twenty or so units in which his teammate Alex Martín was also present, within the last fifteen kilometres.

Rodriguez, alone, managed to ride with a 40 second margin over his pursuers. It was a bet that came to give continuity to the great work of the Polartec-Kometa for many kilometers to keep the race under control.  Once he was hunted, with the mountain jersey secured, and the group of twenty units at the head of the race was formed, some unsuccessful attempt by Martin arrived.

Once this escape of two riders is consolidated, with another rider as a bridge between the front of the race and the main group, Rodríguez will sign the seventh final place, 32 seconds from the winner. With identical time, Martin would finish the eleventh. In the peloton that reached 2:30, there were Juan José Rosal (24th in the finish), Joan Marc Campos (32nd) and Manuel Jesús Carrellán (38th).

Guillermo Gutiérrez, director: “The team worked very well, they did a great job. But the wind was very bad for the finish line and the formations that had the most presence in the leading group played their role well”.

The fourth round of the Cup will take place on 17 June with the celebration of the José Luis Junto Memorial in Unquera (Cantabria). There will be 113 kilometres of broken terrain, which will be very demanding due to the accumulation of unevenness in a terrain lacking in rest.
