English Alberto Contador closed today the Campus Cofidis to select riders for his junior team

Alberto Contador closed today the Campus Cofidis to select riders for his junior team, which was held in Pinto during this weekend. Alberto shared two hours of training with the 39 aspiring young cyclists who have applied to join the junior team in 2014 and enjoyed a unique experience.

The leader of Team Saxo-Tinkoff will travel tomorrow to Switzerland to do there the last trainings before leaving for the Worlds in Florence, but before he showed again his support to values of the future of the Spanish cycling. Alberto is very proud of the performance of his junior team throughout this season and expressed his hope on new riders coming now, in the Under 23 team that will start next season and in Cycling Schools, just starting to work this week in Pinto.

“I’m excited to see the kids who are here and as far as possible I have to work with them. I remember my beginnings were very modest because my family did not have many means and now we try to help as much as possible”, said Alberto Contador. “Right now the Spanish cycling leaders are at the forefront, but the coming generations do not have the same future and so it is very important the junior team that came out this year, the U23 team that will start next year and cycling schools we have created in Pinto. Now everything is effort and expenses, but for the sake of the sport which I love I hope that in future we will enjoy great champions”.

Contador also spoke about the expectations for the Worlds in Florence. “I see it very well, we have a very strong team with lots of experience and will be a reference in the Worlds. We have to start thinking about getting medals and the gold one”.

Alberto believes that the team will work well, thinking on the whole group. “I am realistic and I know that Valverde or Joaquim Rodríguez both have many more options than me. I think it will arrive a very small group and our ultimate goal, beyond individualities, is to get the gold for Spain”. In any case, he will arrive in good form. “I’ve worked very much the distance, it will be very important in a race of 7 hours, 270 kilometers, a distance that is done a few times in the year. I hope to have good feelings, for that I have worked hard, with many hours behind the motorbike and doing training many days above 200 kilometers. I hope all of that will be seen on the road”.

Finally, and apart from the Spanish team, Alberto Contador said his favourite is

Peter Sagan, “because he is in a state of extraordinary form, but it is also true that in this type of one day racing to be a clear favorite is a handicap”.
