El equipo Specialized-Fundación Alberto Contador se reunió en el hotel Santana de Segovia por primera vez con sus 14 corredores al completo, que permanecerán concentrados hasta el próximo domingo realizando diversas actividades de preparación invernal, desde caminatas por la montaña hasta sesiones de gimnasio y piscina, sin olvidar las primeras salidas en bici, ya que de aquí se llevarán para casa sus nuevas bicicletas, en cuyo montaje también ha colaborado desinteresadamente el mecánico personal de Alberto Contador, Faustino Muñoz.
Alberto Contador estuvo esta mañana con los integrantes de su equipo para animarles y darles una pequeña charla de motivación en este comienzo de temporada, un gesto al que sus nuevos pupilos respondieron con una tarta y cantándole el ‘cumpleaños feliz’. Para Alberto, la experiencia de poder apoyar a unos corredores que empiezan le resulta especialmente gratificante. “Ha sido algo muy emotivo. Ver a los chicos tal como yo empecé, con una ilusión enorme, valorando todo esto que les podemos ofrecer, me hace mucha ilusión y me motiva especialmente”, dijo Alberto.
“Poner en marcha este equipo es un gran esfuerzo y una gran responsabilidad, pero también me motiva a seguir con mi propia carrera verles a ellos luchando por llegar en estos tiempos, que no son los mejores para el ciclismo”. Además, Alberto recibió la sorpresa de una tarta de cumpleaños que no se esperaba en ese lugar. “Sí, me han dado la sorpresa y me han cantado el ‘cumpleaños feliz’ por mis 30 añitos, pero no, no me han hecho sentirme viejo, aunque ya he pasado del 2 al 3 y eso es cosa seria”, dijo el líder del Saxo-Tinkoff.

José Luis de Santos, ex ciclista profesional y último seleccionador nacional, será el primer director y máximo responsable de un proyecto que nace con un compromiso de continuidad de al menos tres años para el equipo junior y que se quiere potenciar en 2014 con un equipo Sub-23 y un equipo junior femenino.
“Estoy muy contento e ilusionado de empezar este proyecto”, dice De Santos. “Nos hemos reunido por primera vez todos los corredores y el staff técnico con la idea de marcar las pautas para todo el año, hacer la clásica preparación invernal y darles a los corredores sus nuevas bicicletas para que se las puedan llevar ya a casa”.
El calendario del equipo todavía no está definido, pero ya sabe cuando será su debut. “Será el próximo 23 de febrero en Don Benito”, dice de Santos, “pero estamos esperando a conocer el calendario nacional definitivo para planificar la temporada y también las salidas al extranjero, seguramente a Italia, que es la cuna del ciclismo en estas categorías”, concluyó.
